FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I donate?

I have created a way to accept donations to grow the project, use the WWII Veterans Portrait Series Go Fund Me.

Where are you located?

I live in the San Diego area but have traveled to many locations to interview and photograph Veterans.

How Long is an Appointment?

Appointments usually last an hour. But please free up time for Mickey to set up lights and cameras, hold the interview, and take some still photographers for in the project.

Do you accept reservations?

Yes is the simple answer to the question. Each appointment is set up as an individual session. Group sessions have been set up when I visited a senior living facility or many of the California Veterans Homes.

US Army SSGT World War 2 Joseph H. Myers was born on 6 May 1926 and served as an Army Supply Technician. He was drafted out of High school from Yelm Wa as an infantryman in 1945 and served three years from 28 November 1945 to 29 May 1947. He said, “I was drafted just as everyone gave up.” While waiting for Bootcamp, he worked for Boeing Aircraft before reporting to Ft Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas, for basic training. He was a fantastic shot during basic training and was selected for an anointment at Basic training as a firearms instructor at the recruit training center. He was sure it was because Joe and his Grandpa had been shooting since he was age four. After returning from post-Bootcamp leave, his orders changed a second time. He transferred from the reserves to the regular Army and received his bonus. The new orders sent him to the 761st Military Police Battalion in Anchorage, Alaska. The 761st MP BN was a constabulary unit stationed in the Territory of Alaska at Fort Richardson towards the end of World War II. The trip took nine days by ship to transit from Seattle to Alaska. He worked as an MP but was also assigned to work in supply. During an inspection, a general meritoriously promoted him from Buck Sargent to Staff Sargent one day. He said his service was nothing special, but he stood the watch in the remote wilds of Alaska to ensure our country's defense against a northern incursion. He remembers being in San Fransisco when he heard about Germany surrendering. Joe married Mable Foster, and they had two kids. Joe is now married to Ann Marie Lorenzini and lives in Carlsbad, CA. During his discharge process, his paperwork and the Doc joked that he was discharged because his paperwork said he was pregnant.
